Governement
Liechtenstein is a constitutional monarchy, meaning it has both a monarch and an elected leader. The monarch, currently Prince Hans Adam II, has much more power than many other modern kings and queens. He can veto any legislation and he represents the country internationally. Liechtenstein also has a Prime Minister, who is chosen out of the 25 elected members of Landtag, Liechtenstein's unicameral legislative chamber. Members are elected through proportianal voting, and a party needs 8% or more votes to win a seat.
Political Parties
Liechtenstein has a few main political parties currently in the Landtag. The biggest two are "Vaterländische Union" and "Fortschrittliche Bürgerpartei." Both are similiar in ideology though differ enough to be seperate. Other parties include "Freie Liste", the most progessive, and "Demokraten pro Liechtenstein", the most conservative.
2021 Election
All of these parties went head to head in the most recent election. Fortschrittliche Bürgerpartei had the majority of seats from last election, but ended up tying with Daniel Risch's Vaterländische Union, with both parties getting 36% of the vote and 10 seats. Freie Liste had one of the best showings in its history, getting 13% of the vote and 3 seats. Demokraten pro Liechtenstein gained just 2 seats, but for their first year as a party it was impressive.
